Reloading isn’t a hobby. It’s precision work where carelessness gets punished. If you want consistent performance and safe results, there’s no room for shortcuts.
Use real load data.
Always stick to verified sources like bullet manufacturers or published manuals. No “my buddy said this works” nonsense. Start low and work up. Guesswork has no place on your bench.
Inspect every case, every time.
Used brass can be dangerous. Look for cracks, splits, bulging, or signs of head separation. If it feels off, toss it. Track how many times a case has been reloaded. Brass doesn’t last forever.
Keep your workspace clean and organised.
Reloading in chaos is asking for a mistake. One powder on the bench at a time. Label everything. Clean tools, good lighting, and clear focus — that’s how professionals operate.
Handle primers with respect.
They’re sensitive. Don’t mix them, don’t force them, and keep them away from heat, static, and impact. One wrong move and you’re dealing with more than a mess.
Reload with a clear head.
No reloading when you’re tired, angry, distracted, or half-drunk. This is not the time to zone out. Be present. Every step matters.
Keep a logbook.
Track what you load and how it performs. Bullet type, charge weight, OAL, brass condition — write it down. When something works well, you’ll know why. When it doesn’t, you’ll have the data to fix it.
Wear eye protection. Always.
One primer detonation in your face is all it takes. Don’t be the guy who says “I never had a problem before.” Glasses on. No exceptions.
Reloading puts you in control, but only if you take it seriously. Skip the myths, stop the guessing, and focus on doing it right.
Using polymer-coated bullets? You're already making smarter choices. Less fouling, more consistency, better results.
